JADE's Collaborative Environmental Showcase at Peavey Plaza, the Courtyard of Minnesota Orchestra Hall

On June 8, 2024, JADE teamed up with Asian Media Access and Hennepin County to present a unique and impactful event at Peavey Plaza, the courtyard of Minnesota Orchestra Hall. This collaboration aimed to raise awareness about environmental issues through artistic and educational displays, engaging the community in meaningful conversations about sustainability and climate resilience.

One of the highlights of the event was the showcase of Recycling and Upcycling Posters. These posters, created by youth from around the world, demonstrated innovative ways to recycle and upcycle everyday items, turning potential waste into useful and beautiful objects. The showcase illustrated the global interest in environmental stewardship, with young people taking the lead. These creative solutions inspired attendees to think differently about waste and encouraged them to adopt more sustainable practices in their own lives. The diversity of the posters highlighted creative ideas and techniques to approach recycling and upcycling.

In addition to the poster showcase, the event featured Nature Exhibits that emphasized the importance of living in harmony with nature. These exhibits drew from various Asian cultures, presenting sustainable practices. The exhibits aimed to educate attendees on how these traditional practices contribute to environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation. They served as a reminder of the wisdom embedded in cultural traditions and how these practices can be adapted to modern sustainability efforts. The exhibits were designed to be interactive and informative, allowing visitors to engage with the material and gain a deeper understanding of the importance of environmental stewardship.

JADE youth played a crucial role in the event by assisting Hennepin County in distributing the Climate Resilient survey. This survey is an important tool for gathering community input on how to better prepare for and respond to the challenges posed by climate change. The JADE youth engaged with attendees, explaining the significance of the survey and encouraging them to participate. Their involvement not only helped collect valuable data but also empowered the youth to take an active role in promoting climate resilience. Through this experience, the youth gained a deeper understanding of climate issues and the importance of community engagement in finding solutions.

During the event, the JADE Co-Chair Grace Li took the stage to introduce JADE and its various sustainable initiatives. Grace highlighted JADE's commitment to promoting environmental sustainability through education, community engagement, and innovative projects. She shared stories of successful past initiatives and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving sustainability goals. This introduction provided attendees with a deeper understanding of JADE's mission and inspired them to get involved in the organization's future activities.

The event at the courtyard of Minnesota Orchestra Hall showcased the power of collaboration. By working together, JADE, Asian Media Access, and Hennepin County were able to create an event that was both educational and inspiring. The combination of artistic expression and practical information provided a comprehensive approach to raising awareness about environmental sustainability. The involvement of the JADE youth further highlighted the importance of engaging the next generation in sustainability efforts. Their energy and enthusiasm were inspiring, encouraging others to take action and make a difference.

The success of this event has laid the groundwork for future collaborations and initiatives. JADE and Asian Media Access plan to continue their partnership, bringing similar events to other venues and communities. By expanding their reach, they hope to inspire even more people to adopt sustainable practices and become active participants in the fight against climate change. The organizations are also exploring opportunities to involve more youth in their efforts, recognizing the important role that young people play in shaping a sustainable future.
