Inspiring Journeys: Community Changemakers Share Their Stories

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, families gathered at the University of Minnesota - Humphrey School of Public Affairs, to hear the inspiring journeys of four community changemakers. From entrepreneurship to leadership, each speaker shared real stories of growth, possibility, and the lessons that shaped their paths.

Over two hours, the speakers presented their experiences and insights before engaging in a lively Q & A with the audience.

  • Chen Guo, an R&D expert in medical device development now at Boston Scientific, reflected on the importance of bravery and exploration, especially when young and unafraid to make mistakes. She also highlighted the value of planning for your long term goals and vision.
  • Marc Liu, co-founder and Chief Revenue Officer at Civilized Cycles, traced his journey from investment banking to founding a digital marketing firm and a luxury e-bike brand. Drawing on his time living in China, Australia, and France, he highlighted how understanding culture can sharpen one’s ability to sell, a skill everyone can utilize.
  • Liangliang Duan, SVP and Director of Data Analytics at US Bank, discussed how networking and clear communication can showcase your work and open new opportunities. Understanding your role helps you best guide your decisions and actions.
  • Roz Tsai, vice president of HR at Thrivent, discussed her time as a senior HR leader and current VP with Thrivent, specializing in talent strategy, leadership development, and organizational effectiveness. She shared the importance of seeking honest, critical feedback from everyone around you to fuel self-improvement.

The event left attendees energized and inspired, encouraging families to imagine and pursue their own diverse career paths.
